"VIGILANT, BUT UNAFRAID":
U2 RETURNING TO PARIS

U2 is going back to Paris to play. The Interscope band had been scheduled to perform on 11/14, the day after the deadly terrorist attacks that claimed 130 lives (most of them at Le Bataclan theater), and had naturally canceled. They are now slated to appear at the Accor Hotels Arena on 12/6 and 12/7. The show will be broadcast on HBO.

Frontman Bono told the AP to expect “joy as an act of defiance. That’s what U2 does, that’s what French people want from us and that’s it.” As for questions of security in the wake of the attacks, he advised, “Be vigilant, but be unafraid.” He made the comments while discussing a new (RED) campaign launching on World AIDS Day.

The singer also praised Eagles of Death Metal, who were performing at the Bataclan when the terrible violence took place. “We’re very, very of course moved by the fact that our fellow troubadours, the Eagles of Death Metal, had such a hard time,” he said. “They’re an extraordinary talented band, they’ve been through the most ugly nightmare and they have been very graceful about it.”
