BIEBER BEATS LENNON'S U.K. CHART RECORD

As well as celebrating second place on this year’s fastest-selling albums list, with Purpose shifting 90k combined chart sales in Blighty, Justin Bieber and team have achieved a feat last held by the late John Lennon 34 years ago. It’s total domination for Bieber worldwide this past week, and chart domination in the U.K.

Def Jam's Bieber, who goes through Ted Cockle's Virgin EMI in the U.K., has three entries in the Official Singles Chart Top 5 in Blighty this week. “Sorry” knocks Adele off the #1 spot, “Love Yourself” is at #3 and “What Do You Mean?” at #5.

The last male artist to have achieved this trifecta was Lennon in January 1981 with “Imagine” #1, “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)” #3 and “(Just Like) Starting Over” #5; all three flew up the charts following the former Beatle's tragic death.

Additionally, every track from Purpose charts inside the Top 100, eight of which cracked the Top 40–the first time ever that a living act has achieved this many entries simultaneously in the singles chat Top 40. The closest was Elvis 58 years ago in 1957, who managed a maximum of seven entries.

And there’s more. “Sorry” breaks a new Official Chart record this week by shifting 104k combined chart sales, including 5.35m streams, a new personal best for the Canadian star. “Sorry” is the Def Jam artist’s second U.K. #1 single after “What Do You Mean?” logged five weeks at #1 in September/October.

U.K. promo this past week includes an interview on Annie Mac's BBC Radio 1 show, where Purpose was the Hottest Record in the World yesterday, and an album replay party at Global's Capital FM. A competition for U.K. fans who bought a copy of Purpose to meet their favourite star ran alongside a promotion on Amazon U.K. to win a signed skateboard.

Could Bieber's comeback get any bigger? All hail Scooter Braun!
