BOOM: ADELE LOOKS AT 2M

Superstar Scores 250k+ Preorders in Five Days;

Industry handicappers now believe Queen of Pop Adele could see a debut in the neighborhood of 2m for her new full-length, 25 (due 11/20 on XL/Columbia). The set has scored 250k+ in preorders across all vendors in its first five days and remains parked atop the iTunes album chart around the globe (85 countries made it #1 as soon as the preorder phase began on Friday). Can it hit 300k before the week is out?

Single “Hello,” also released last Friday, now looks certain to move 1m+ in its first week—which would give it the second-biggest first week in the modern era (behind Elton John’s “Candle in the Wind” in 1997, which sold 3.4m first week) and the biggest of the digital era. It flew to #1 at iTunes in 77 countries upon release.

“Hello” broke the all-time add record according to Mediabase with 347 adds across all formats. Views for the stylish, black-and-white video were off the chart, as Adele quickly racked up north of 100m on YouTube and getting a record-smashing 27m Vevo views in 24 hours. It instantly became the #1 song at Shazam. Naturally, it scored the the #1 spot on the U.K.’s Official Singles Chart.

"Hello" also set the single-day U.S. streaming record on Saturday with a whopping 2.3m total streams. The previous record-holder was “Drag Me Down” by Columbia labelmate One Direction, with 1.8m U.S. in its first day.

Adele will have a number of big TV looks around her release, with SNL on 11/21, a Radio City Music Hall special taping on 11/17 for her NBC prime time special and Fallon and Today appearances TBA.

Will all this add up to a double-platinum chart bow? Hard to say for sure—but so far the indicators are mighty strong.
