BIEBER VISITS THE BEEB

Justin Bieber dropped in on the BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show this morning to drink pints with Nick Grimshaw and discuss his new album, Purpose.

It's the first time in three years Bieber has appeared on the Beeb's Breakfast Show; the interview was taped last week. Out on 11/13, Purpose has been recorded with help from Kanye West and Ed Sheeran, as well as Diplo and Skrillex, who Bieber lent his vocals to for the duo's latest single under the moniker Jack Ü, "Where Are Ü Now?"

The name for Purpose was inspired by Bieber's hiatus, he told Grimshaw. "For a while I felt I lost my purpose and I feel like I found it again. The message is to say no matter how far away you feel from yourself, there's always room to find that purpose again. I want people to feel happy and inspired [when listening to the album]."

It's Bieber's debut on Def Jam after the Island Def Jam Music Group disbanded, and this time he's making the music he really wants to make, he said. "I never was really able to make the music I wanted to make [before]; I was really young and had people telling me what to record and giving me songs. It wasn't really my music. I'm glad now that I have a say in what I want to do, it's my project. It takes time as an artist to develop your sound and what you like and don't like."

Purpose will go head-to-head with the fifth album from SYCO/Columbia stars One Direction, but Biebs isn't chasing the top spot. "It's not like I have to get a #1 to have success with this record; I succeeded when I wrote it. I was able to do what I love and put it down on paper," he explained.

Bieber's new track "Sorry" was released on Friday (the same day Adele's huge comeback track "Hello" dropped), and has had over 30k views on YouTube. It looks set for a #2 on the U.K. Official Singles Chart on Friday.

Bieber didn't leave the Beeb without sharing selfie tips with Grimshaw. It's all in the angles and eyebrows, apparently. We're taking notes.
