U.K. CHART UPDATE

Where Things Stand in Blighty as Friday Nears

Island’s John Newman is sitting at #3 in the U.K. Official Albums Chart update two days before the chart finalizes, while Safehouse/Island/Hollywood star Demi Lovato looks set to score her highest charting album yet in Blighty at #2. So who’s #1?

It’s singer/songwriter Jamie Lawson, the debut act from Gingerbread Man Records. The label was founded by the King of charts himself, Ed Sheeran, who today was crowned Best Solo Artist at the Q Awards in London.

Lawson’s self-titled second album is currently treading the same path as Sheeran’s x and +, which both hit #1 on their release in September 2011 and June 2014 respectively. Can the red-headed crooner do no wrong? Clearly not, Lawson’s record is currently double the sales of Lovato's Confident. Keep your eyes peeled for his first U.S. appearance on Ellen on 11/10.

Newman's second album, Revolve, was expected to chart at #1, however. Will there be a big marketing push from Island and the singer's management at Closer Artists before Friday?

Elsewhere, English rockers Nothing But Thieves’ self-titled RCA release starts at #4, and “Mysterious Girl” singer Peter Andre’s 10th album, Come Fly With Me—distributed via Warner’s East West—is at #5.

Other notable U.S. appearances on Blighty’s album charts include RCA a cappella group Pentatonix, who open at #13 with their new, self-titled collection, while eOne’s The Game is at #16 with The Documentary 2.5.

Indie dance label Ministry of Sound could be set for another #1 after their reigning success with Sigala’s “Easy Love” last month. A collaboration between elusive London DJ and producer KDA, Tinie Tempah and Katy B, “Turn The Music Louder (Rumble),” is headed for the U.K. Official Singles Chart top spot. It’s a bit more than 7k sales ahead of its nearest competitor— the second single from One Direction's fifth (and possibly last) album, “Perfect” (SYCO).

Mad Decent
-signed, Canadian DJ and producer Sleepy Tom has teamed up with Diplo for new single “Be Right There,” which was up 88 places to #3 mid-week.

The Weeknd’s “The Hills” (Republic Records/XO) is at #4 today, followed by the first single from Lawson’s aforementioned LP “Wasn’t Expecting That” at #5. Bet he wasn't expecting this either.
