Justin Bieber’s Purpose (RBMG/Def Jam) went on preorder last Friday, joining the existing preorder for One Direction’s Made in the A.M. (SYCO/Columbia), and the degree of separation between the two is surprising.
In its first three days, Bieber has done less than half of what 1D did in its first day alone. As of Monday morning, Made in the A.M. has registered 127k in total preorders since it becoming available the third week September, while Purpose is at 36.5k. Bieber’s album is #1 at iTunes, 1D’s is presently #4.
Meanwhile, “Perfect,” the third track to go on sale in advance of Made in the A.M., which also arrived on Friday, sits at #2 on the singles side behind Drake’s “Hotline Bling”; Bieber’s comeback hit “What Do You Mean?” remains on the big board at #8.
