U.K MIDWEEK CHARTS: RUDIMENTAL AND THE VAMPS LEAD THE LISTS

Rudimental are indeed ruling the midweek Official Albums Chart in Blighty, with their latest album We the Generation looking set to award the Warner-signed producer/DJ quartet their second #1.

Released via Asylum/Atlantic, We the Generation is currently double the sales of nearest competitor In Dream, the fifth album from rock band Editors, released via PIAS Recordings.

Managed by Henry Village and Joe Gossa’s Stack House, Rudimental last hit the U.K. album chart summit with debut Home in 2013.

The absence of surprise blockbuster releases permitting, Editors will get their fifth consecutive Top 10 album on Friday, Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour will hold at #3 with previous #1 Rattle That Lock (Columbia), Atlantic singer/songwriter Jess Glynne will continue her long tenure in the Top 5 at #4 with debut I Cry When I Laugh, while global star Ed Sheeran (who was announced as co-host alongside Aussie personality Ruby Rose for the MTV EMAs last week) jumps three places to #5 with second album X. The LP has just been certified 8x platinum by the BPI, with promo single “Tenerife Sea” turning Silver.

The campaign for the second album from Virgin EMI boy band The Vamps is off to a good start, as lead single “Wake Up” tops the U.K. midweek Official Singles Chart. Its performance will have to pick up before Friday to easily nab the top spot with just 2,000 sales between it and nearest competitor “Alone No More” (3 Beat) from British DJ and producer duo Philip George and Anton Powers.

Also titled Wake Up, The Vamps new album is out on 11/27. Their debut effort Meet the Vamps reached #2 on its release in April last year, while chart peaks singles wise are 2013’s “Can We Dance” and 2014’s “Last Night”, which both charted at #2.

Former chart-topper Justin Bieber’s “What Do You Mean” (Def Jam) starts at #3 today, trailed by R. City’s “Locked Away” feat. Adam Levine (Kemosabe/RCA) at #4 and last week’s #1 from Capitol, Sam Smith’s Bond tune “Writing’s on the Wall” at #5. Full story Friday.
