JAY Z, BEYONCÉ, PRINCE, NICKI, LIL WAYNE, MORE TO PLAY TIDAL-BACKED BENEFIT

Struggling streamery Tidal and smartphone manufacturer HTC are teaming up for charity.

Jay Z, Beyoncé, Prince, Usher, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, T.I., and several others yet to be revealed are set to play a benefit concert, the weirdly named Tidal X: 1020 Amplified by HTC (that’s official) on 10/20 at Brooklyn's Barclays Center.

The event will reportedly be the first in a series of Tidal-affiliated "philanthropic music events," which are "aimed at raising awareness, funds, conscious engagement, and dynamic action for transformative and positive social impact worldwide."

Tidal will be matching all of the proceeds raised through ticket sales and working with the New World Foundation to channel funds to selected charities. If you're a current subscriber, tickets to the show go on sale this afternoon at 12pm ET. The general public has to wait until Friday at the same time in order to grab their seats

The music service has announced that it has now attracted 1 million subscribers, and hopes to distinguish itself in a crowded field by broadcasting live music events.

So far this year Tidal has live streamed Hot 97’s “Summer Jam” in New Jersey, the “Made in America Festival” in Philadelphia, Lil Wayne’s “Lil Weezyana Fest” in New Orleans, and Prince’s benefit concert “Rally 4 Peace” from Baltimore among many others.

The Tidal X charity show promises to include special collaborations onstage to "specifically chosen songs to promote the message of unity through music," so maybe a Jay-Z freestyle over a Prince guitar solo is in our future.

For a bit of context, Tidal's millionth user gives the service about 1% of Spotify's user base.
