AMAZON FINALLY GETS UMG FOR
PRIME MUSIC

And then there were three. Amazon announced on Tuesday that it has finally locked up the UMG catalog for Amazon Prime Music. The streaming service launched 15 months ago with just the Sony and Warner catalogs, making it a runt among the big dogs of the streaming sector.

The hold-up had to do with money (what else?)—UMG wanted to strike a deal based on a revenue share of Prime subscriptions, but Amazon wouldn’t agree to a split, MBW reports. But the two sides apparently managed to reach a compromise.

“We are pleased to make a selection of our catalog available on Prime Music,” UMG Global Head of Digital Business Francis Keeling said for the record. “With Amazon’s tremendous reach and consumer appeal, we are delighted to build on our relationship by making Universal Music’s world-class artists available to Amazon Prime members.”
