New York's Z100 just introduced the world to DNCE, a brand new band signed to Republic and fronted by Joe Jonas. The radio tastemaker premiered the four-piece's first official single, "Cake by the Ocean," enthusiastically playing it twice in a row.
As their name suggests, the pop track is certainly quite dancey. Its infectiousness is a product of collaboration between the band, Semi Precious Weapons frontman and songwriter Justin Tranter (Hailee Steinfeld's "Love Myself," Selena Gomez's "Good For You," Fall Out Boy's "Centuries") and producing team Mattman and Robin. The latter have worked with the likes of Taylor Swift, Tove Lo, Adam Lambert, Carly Rae Jepsen and more.
The band, meanwhile, is comprised of guitarist JinJoo Lee (Jordin Sparks, Charli XCX, CeeLo Green), bassist/keyboardist Cole Whittle (Semi Precious Weapons) and drummer Jack Lawless (Jonas Brothers).
Looks like you can have your cake and dance to it too.
