WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: COMPTON RULES HOLLYWOOD AGAIN

The Top 5 Highest Grossing Films Over the Weekend Domestically

Universal's Straight Outta Compton spends another weekend as the top-grossing film in America, earning another $27m—which is, by the way, about how much many skeptics thought it would do in its opening weekend. 

1. Straight Outta Compton (Universal) $27m 3,025/$8,846 avg. (week 2)
2. Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation (Paramount) $12m 3,442/$3,339 avg. (week 4)
3. Sinister 2 (Focus) $11m 2,766/$3,844 avg. (debut)
4. Hitman: Agent 47 (Fox) $8.2m 3,261/$2,515 avg. (debut)
5. The Man From U.N.C.L.E. (Warner Bros.) $7.4m 3,673/$2,020 avg. (week 2)

Meanwhile, Lionsgate's American Ultra, which stars Jesse Eisenberg as a small-town stoner who's also a sleeper spy, opened at #6 to mostly dismal reviews (with a couple of notable exceptions that, frankly, made us want to see it).
