CHART STORY: DISNEY AND LED ZEP

Descendants ST, Three Zep Reissues Rule Sales Chart

Disney’s Descendants soundtrack takes the top spot on this week’s HITS Album Sales Chart in the midst of a soft week; the ST takes #1 with just over 31k.

Four other debuts follow in the Top 5, and three of them are Rhino reissues of late-career albums by the mighty Led Zeppelin, In Through the Out Door, Coda and Presence. All three earned in the vicinity of 24 k, which is not bad for a trio of sets from the ’70s and early '80s. They sound very, very good, especially when played at outrageous volume.

CMSN rapper Lil Dicky rounds out the Top 5 with 23k-plus.

Previous #1 Jill Scott takes #6, Big Machine/BMLG’s Taylor Swift grabs #7 with the indefatigable 1989, recent chart-topper Future (A1/Freebandz/Epic) nabs #8 and Quality Control’s hip-hop team Migos debut at #9. Voltron's Tyrese, another recent chart champ, rounds out the Top 10.

The week's greatest gainer is Columbia's Hozier, who moves #39-21 for a 50% gain. His winsome single "Someone New" impacts Pop imminently.

Descendants rules the Sales Plus Streaming (SPS) chart as well, while Taylor takes #2 and Future #3. Even with minimal increases from streaming, the Zep trio takes positions #7-9.

You can see the all the album numbers here and SPS here.

But all eyes are on next week’s chart, when Capitol Nashville’s Luke Bryan and Dr. Dre’s Compton (Aftermath/Interscope) square off. Stay tuned.
