DR. DRE'S COMPTON CARE PACKAGE

Dr. Dre Donating New Album Royalties to Fund Arts Center in Compton

This morning, an enthusiastic, gushing and passionate Zane Lowe had the boss Dr. Dre call in to his Beats 1 radio show to discuss the special streaming preview of the album Compton on Apple Music, world premiering on the service tonight at 6pm PST.

The album will play on a loop for three hours, followed by a special show dedicated to the release that Lowe will be hosting at 9pm.

During this morning's interview, the billionaire producer also revealed he will be donating all of his royalties from this project to help fund a new performing arts and entertainment facility for the kids in Compton.

"I feel it's the right thing to do, and I hope everybody appreciates the work I put into this album," Dr. Dre said. He went on to explain that he had reached out to Compton mayor Aja Brown a few times in an effort to figure out how to do something for the city.

"I've been really trying to do something special for Compton and just couldn't quite figure out what it was," Dre continued. "She actually had this idea and she was already in the process of working on it. I said, 'Boom, this is what we should do.'"

This is not the first time Dre has been a huge philanthropist. Last year, along with partner Jimmy Iovine, he established an undergraduate academy at USC for students to learn entrepreneurship with a $70 million gift. The Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology and Business of Innovation started accepting students last August.

Compton: A Soundtrack by Dr. Dre, inspired by the N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton, which opens Aug. 14, will be released tomorrow.
