HOT FUN IN THE SUMMERTIME

SYCO/Columbia's One Direction is headed in the right direction—up. "Drag Me Down," the band's latest single, is breaking Spotify records around the world.

As we previously reported, the track broke the worldwide record for most listens in a single day with 4.75m global streams and 1.2m unique listeners. In the US, 1D also racked up the most one-day streams with 1.77m, accounting for more than one-third of the worldwide total and making it the highest track debut ever at Spotify. "Drag Me Down" is the fastest track to hit #1 globally.

An interesting side note, new Spotify registrations increased by 100k after the track appeared—and 100% of these registrants listened to "Drag Me Down." Is this the result of the label withholding the track from Vevo/YouTube? Or are One Direction fans just discovering the joys of streaming?

With only two days left in the reporting week, "Drag Me Down" is headed for a first-week total of more than 7m streams.

On the sales side, “Drag Me Down” is set to give 1D a first-week personal best. The band’s previous biggest first week was with 2012’s “Live While We’re Young” with 341k. “Drag Me Down” is currently trending north of 350k.
