LOLLA'S LOUD WEEKEND

Paul McCartney, The Weeknd, Severe Weather Conditions & More Provide Lollapalooza Highlights

Twenty-four years since its inception, another Lollapalooza has come to a close. Now one of the biggest summer festivals in America, the event—which once again took place at Chicago's Grant Parko—successfully drew crowds of approximately 100k attendees for each of the three days.

Paul McCartney had one of the most talked-about sets of the weekend, which included Rihanna's "FourFiveSeconds," along with a cornucopia of Beatles classics like "Magical Mystery Tour," "I've Just Seen a Face," "Blackbird," "Let It Be," "Hey Jude" and "Helter Skelter."

The moment everyone's still buzzing about involved a summit meeting between Macca and Alabama Shakes' Brittany Howard, who performed "Get Back" together.

The Weeknd churned out a standout set, which included five covers: Drake's "Crew Love," Ty Dolla $ign's "Or Nah," Wiz Khalifa's "Remember You," Beyonce's "Drunk in Love" and Ariana Grande's "Love Me Harder."

As for original content, the apparent face of current pop music dazzled with "Often," "Earned It," "The Hills," and, of course, smash single "Can't Feel My Face."

Tove Lo, Glass Animals—who provided a groovy cover of Kanye West's "Love Lockdown"—Dillon Francis (joined onstage by and DJ Mustard swere the most buzzed-about up-and-comers of day one.

U.K.-based ones-to-watch Catfish and the Bottlemen celebrated a pretty crazy turnout for their noontime set. ICYMI, you can catch them on Conan this Tueday (8/4).

Hip-hop artist Travi$ Scott was arrested on Saturday after allegedly advising fans to assail and jump the barricades. He only made it through three songs before being slapped with a misdemeanor charge for reckless conduct. The rapper was later released from custody after posting bail.

Tove Lo joined Alesso onstage to perform their hit, "Heroes," shortly after Walk the Moon got everyone on their feet for "Shut Up and Dance."

Shout out to @tovelo for joining me on stage last night at @lollapalooza !

Recently returned from doctor-ordered vocal rest, Sam Smith serenaded with a typically wonderful set. This time, though, Smith took a moment to honor the late Amy Winehouse, covering her "Tears Dry on Their Own" after declaring, "This is for you, Amy." He also covered segments of "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" and Elvis Presley's "Can't Help Falling in Love."

Chicago. Still in a dream. Never felt so high x

Metallica headlined Saturday evening, bringing some raaaawk to the party.

One of the most notable moments didn't come from a performer, however. The fest had to be evacuated on Sunday due to dangerous weather warnings and extreme thunderstorms. The evacuation was brief, only lasting from 2:30pm to about 4pm CT; the schedule had to be rearranged, but no performances were cancelled.

George Ezra got to welcome fans back into the park, as his set was delayed until 4:15. Unfortunately, it also had to be shortened to 30 minutes.

Twenty One Pilots
and Halsey proved to be some of the final day faves. The latter, who had the entire audience singing along to Beats 1-supported anthem "New Americana," can be seen leaping across the photo pit in an impressive stage dive below.

Queen of the Festivals Florence Welch channeled her own storm before the big one hit, while Florence + the Machine performed as the event's closing headliner.

At the end of the day, the fest had close its gates 30 minutes early, thanks again to weather. Attendees returned to their hotels to order an ungodly amount of room service to soothe their peaking desire for munchies.

For an idea of who at the office is still rolling, however, look for the colleague cuddling their stapler.
