CHART STORY: FUTURE IS NOW

Future's DS2 Has #Epic First Week

A1/Freebandz/Epic’s Future has topped the HITS Building Album Sales Chart with 132k and the Sales Plus Streaming (SPS) Chart with 153k.

Dirty Sprite 2 has more than doubled the first-week number of its predecessor, Honest, which made 53k when it streeted in 2014.

It's worth noting that the elevated SPS number on this project was driven by extensive streaming on the part of Future's large, active fanbase. Speaking of the latter, you may recall that the rapper shut down the Sunset Strip after tweeting about surprise concerts at the Roxy and the House of Blues (both of which inevitably had to be cancelled due to the massive turnout).

In celebration of his success, we've been drinking codeine-laced soda all day. Consequently, we've been spinning around in our office chairs and giggling, which is just not that gangsta.

Last week's #1, Tyrese, takes the #2 spot with his Voltron set.

Continuing the theme of intoxicating substances, Capitol Nashville’s Alan Jackson keeps it classically country with Angels and Alcohol, which bows at #3 with 42k.

Meanwhile, Thirty Tigers Jason Isbell debuts at #4 with nearly 42k for Something More Than Free, and Modular/Interscope’s Tame Impala rounds out the Top 5 with 40k for Currents.

With the help of a $5.99 sale at iTunes, Bad Boy's Notorious B.I.G. (#24), Eardrumma/Interscope's Rae Sremmurd (#42) and G-Eazy (#49) all re-enter the chart this week.

At SPS, YMCMB/Republic's Drake proves to be the King of Streaming, as his mixtape, If You're Reading This, It's Too Late, sees a #11-23 difference when compared to album sales alone.

When it comes to single sales, on the other hand, Columbia's Rachel Platten seems to be Queen, as "Fight Song" powers her EP to #19 at SPS. The anthemic smash is currently the #4 single at iTunes in the U.S.

Streeting this week are albums from RCA/Sony Music Latin’s Prince Royce, Blues Babe’s Jill Scott, SYCO/Hollywood’s Bea Miller and Epic’s Lamb of God, along with Shady/Interscope’s Southpaw soundtrack.
