NO NEED TO BE MODEST

Team Griffiths Scores Three Global #1s in One Week

With “She’s Kinda Hot” from Capitol's Aussie lads 5 Seconds of Summer, the I Can Feel It EP from L.A. teen quartet Hey Violet (on 5SOS' imprint, Hi or Hey, via Capitol) and the U.K. chart-topping single from Little Mix (SYCO/Sony across the pond and SYCO/Columbia stateside), Richard GriffithsModest Management had no fewer than three global #1 records last week.

He'll also have a new album from SYCO/Columbia's monster popsters One Direction in the marketplace in the fall; more about that in a bit.

Distaff Pop group Little Mix topped the British singles chart with "Black Magic" and is set to repeat there; the track now also sits at #1 on iTunes' U.K. store. The single had a terrific first week at U.S. radio, with 48 adds.

5SOS’ infectious new track flew to #1 at iTunes in the U.S., U.K., Australia and Ireland upon its release. The single impacts Pop radio this week.

The 75% female band Hey Violet, meanwhile, bowed at #1 in the U.K. store, as well as in Ireland, Italy, Norway and Sweden, with Top 5 download debuts in nine other territories and Top 10 showings in another seven, including the U.S.

Both 5SOS and Hey Violet traffic in brash, punky guitar pop with candy-colored hooks—and their instant retail impact testifies to Modest’s mastery of youthquake marketing.

Not to mention a mini-renaissance of power pop, which has been resounding on the two bands’ tandem Rock Out With Your Socks Out Tour. The North American leg of the trek begins at Mandalay Bay in Vegas tonight.

5SOS is a massive force on the socials, with 9.7m Facebook likes, 7 million Twitter followers and 3.7m Instagram acolytes. Hey Violet boasts 271k Facebook likes, 221k Twitter followers and an Instagram audience of 187k; those numbers are likely to spike in a big way as sales and continued touring build awareness. Hey Violet's European and U.K. shows earlier this year won them hordes of admirers. The video for "This is Why" just passed the 1m views threshold; a new clip, for "I can Feel It," is due on 7/23.

Fans of both bands are drawn in, meanwhile, to such clickbait shenanigans as the "prank war" both camps have waged with one another on the road.
