PTX DOC A HOME RUN

Pentatonix - On My Way Home from Pentatonix on Vimeo.

The term a cappella used to conjure up images of barbershop quartets, nerdy choir kids, and American Idol auditions, but quite a lot has changed since a cappella phenoms Pentatonix, took NBC’s The Sing Off by storm in 2011. After winning the televised competition and signing with RCA, PTX took a cappella to the next level, nabbing a Grammy and having the #4-selling album of 2014.

The group gained a devoted fan base of Pentaholics through their YouTube channel, which eclipsed 980m views and boasts more subscribers than Beyoncé or Avicii.

The group wanted to give their fans a more intimate glance into their lives and felt that naturally; the next step was to capture their whirlwind of success on film during their sold out 2015 On My Way Home North American tour.

Their feature-length documentary, also titled On My Way Home, isn’t your typical concert doc. It highlights the quintet's ascent from TV competitors to major-label top sellers, and chronicles the recording of their third album.

Late last week, On My Way Home premiered at the Sony lot in L.A. for friends, family and 200 lucky fans, followed by a Q&A. The touching film prompted both laughter and tears. (Seriously, the girl next to me was bawling her eyes out for 10 straight minutes, and she only discovered them a few months ago.)

Afterward, fans opened up to the band, with one woman thanking them for helping her cope with the loss of her husband, another voiced her appreciation for them giving her the courage to come out to her parents, and others simply asked them for fashion tips.

Do yourself a favor and give this film a chance to inspire you. It can be downloaded or streamed via Vimeo now and will be available for rental on 6/25.
