CALLING ALL WEENIES

This weekend, I did something I never do. I traveled... to Irvine. And yes, I Windexed my phone upon returning home.

It was worth it, though. This vegetarian got to attend her first KROQ Weenie Roast ever. Disclaimer: No weenies were harmed in the making of my weekend.

The event was already packed by the time KIDinaKORNER/Interscope's X Ambassadors took the stage for the opening set at 2pm. The band's "Renegades" just jumped #13-8 at Alt radio, by the by.

Republic rising star James Bay mesmerized. I think 60% of the crowd was crying during "If You Ever Want to Be in Love." One bold chick even threw him her digits. I swear it wasn't me. Right...

I'd also like to give a shoutout to Warner Bros.' Big Data who whipped out a cover of Hall & Oates' "Private Eyes." Respect. And, naturally, kids were bopping along to the set's closer, hit "Dangerous."

I was overjoyed to finally rest my eyes on Downtown's Cold War Kids, a personal fave. My date, HITS' Naomi Robin, and I thouroughly enjoyed that they kept things old school with an upright piano on stage. 2014's "All This Could Be Yours" and throwback "Hang Me Up to Dry" were both great, but was pretty bummed they didn't treat me to throwback extraordinaire "We Used to Vacation."

Red Bull's AWOLNATION got the crowd howlin' on current single "Hollow Moon (Bad Wolf)," which recently topped the Alt chart, marking the band's first #1 single. Weenie lovers also went wild during breakout smash "Sail."

RCA's Walk the Moon, who prompted quite a few squeals themselves, opened with their take on The Lion King's "Circle of Life," and of course, wowed with earworm "Shut Up and Dance." The latter already topped the chart at Alt radio and is currently #3 at Pop.

Queen of the BBQ, Republic's Florence Welch, albeit still hindered by her broken foot, enchanted the crowd during Florence + the Machine's set, which included the acoustic debut of "What Kind of Man." The stripped-down rendition was chill-inducing.

Labelmates Of Monsters and Men also served as a standout of the night. Fans enjoyed singing along to 2012 smash, "Little Talks."

Even though temperatures had dropped to an arctic 60 degrees, just about everyone stayed for the longest set of the evening, which belonged to headliner Muse. Warner Bros.' modern rock icons had attendees on their feet for current #1 single "Dead Inside." Said attendees lost their shit, begging for an encore, after "Knights of Cydonia."

As Kevin Weatherly and co. let out well-deserved sighs of satisfaction, I bolted back to La-La Land to drown myself in a bucket of miso soup before passing out in the fetal position.
