AND LIKE A GOOD NEIGHBOR, SONY/ATV IS THERE

U.K. Office Adds Ronson, Snoop Dogg to Neighbouring Rights Division

Sony/ATV has added Mark Ronson, Snoop Dogg and a handful of other artists to its Neighbouring Rights division.

Why did we use the British spelling just there? Because not all of these rights—which accrue to performing and recording artists in the public performance of a recording (notably broadcast radio), as their rights “neighbor” those of the songwriter—apply in the U.S. They are, however a substantial source of revenue in other territories; just ask Sony/ATV U.K. Managing Director and President of European Creative Guy Moot, who said: “Our Neighbouring Rights business continues to go from strength to strength and these additions to the roster will only make it stronger.” The division is run by George Powell, previously of U.K. rights-management org PPL.

Also signing on are DJ Snake, Lily Wood & The Prick (whose “Prayer in C” was an international monster), Shifty K3y, Cedric Gervais, Blonde and AronChupa. The division was launched last year alongside pacts with Pharrell Williams, Clean Bandit, Kiesza and the estate of Lou Reed.
