CHART STORY: BROWN IS THE NEW BLACK

Zac Brown Band Tops the Charts With Jekyll + Hyde

This week, Southern Ground/Varvatos/BMLG/Republic’s Zac Brown Band tops the HITS Building Album Sales Chart with 217k and the Sales Plus Streaming (SPS) Chart with 232k for Jekyll + Hyde.

Meanwhile, Reprise’s Josh Groban bows at #2 with 149k for Stages, a compilation of hit Broadway tunes. The album topped the U.K. chart last week, marking Groban’s first #1 bow across the pond. Admit it, that copy you claim you got for your Mom is really going to live on repeat in your car.

Columbia Nashville’s Tyler Farr rounds out the Top 3 with the debut of his sophomore release, Suffer in Peace, which raked in 37k in album sales.

ATO’s Alabama Shakes drop gently to #4 in their second week, earning another 31k for Sound & Color. The only remaining debut in the Top 15 belongs to Parlophone/Warner Bros.Blur who earned 13k for their first studio album in twelve years.

At SPS, S-Curve/Hollywood’s Andy Grammer looks like the big winner. Thanks to a propulsive hit single, “Honey, I’m Good,” his Magazines or Novels shot #45-19 with 17k, fueled by a Dancing With the Stars performance. At radio, the track is climbing the Top 40, Hot AC and AC charts. At iTunes, it’s the #3 the pop single and #8 overall. It’s also #12 in the U.S. on Shazam.

Seemingly the reigning queen of singles and streaming, YMCMB/Republic’s Nicki Minaj (#49 in album sales) moves #20-16 at SPS, remaining hot with another 18k.

Streeting this week are albums from Glassnote’s Mumford & Sons, NOW’s Now 55, Capitol’s My Morning Jacket, Republic’s remixes from the Fifty Shades of Grey ST and Harvest’s Best Coast.

Screaming this week are the employees of HITS Magazine, as they restrain themselves from jumping off nearby balconies thanks to this week's special double issue.
