Jay Z will be offering a stream of a 5/13 “B-Sides Concert” exclusively to Tidal subscribers, according to Only Hip Hop Facts. The show, at a TBA venue in NYC, will be exclusively available for the site’s community, who can also enter a sweepstakes to win tickets to the show by submitting their own Jay Z Tidal playlist with the hashtag #TIDALXJAYZ. Jay’s considerable catalog of B-sides is catnip for hip-hop heads, especially as not all of it has appeared on his albums.
Needless to say, the artist/mogul owns his masters.
While Tidal has taken a beating of late for its rollout—and has struggled to make a dent in the subscription marketplace—the concert is an example of the “unique value proposition” that Jay and his superstar co-investors have been promising: Bringing major-artist content not available elsewhere directly to fans.
Could Jay end up releasing the individual tracks from the show as Tidal exclusives as well? Might other Tidal investor/artists be following suit soon? Could some of them turn up at Jay’s B Sides throwdown? Stay tuned.
