That’s right, boys and girls—Dr. Dre is a billionaire Apple executive. But did you know that he has an interesting backstory as well? It’s so interesting that Universal Pictures will release a movie about it in August.

“In the mid-1980s, the streets of Compton, California, were some of the most dangerous in the country,” reads the hype that accompanies the first official trailer for Straight Outta Compton: The Story of N.W.A. “When five young men translated their experiences growing up into brutally honest music that rebelled against abusive authority, they gave an explosive voice to a silenced generation. Following the meteoric rise and fall of N.W.A., Straight Outta Compton tells the astonishing story of how these youngsters revolutionized music and pop culture forever the moment they told the world the truth about life in the hood and ignited a cultural war.”

Looks like fun for the whole family and potentially the feel-good hit of the summer—at least for Dre and Ice Cube. The film was directed by F. Gary Gray (Friday, Set It Off, The Italian Job); it stars O’Shea Jackson Jr. as Cube, Corey Hawkins as Dre and Jason Mitchell as Eazy-E. In an inspired bit of casting, manager Jerry Heller is played by Paul Giamatti. This we’ve got to see.
