GRAINGE LAYS IT OUT AT CODE/MEDIA

Grainge at Re/Code on Revitalizing Capitol, Streaming and More

During the Code/Media conference, UMG chief Lucian Grainge sat down with Re/Code's Dawn Chmielewski for a wide-ranging discussion of the state of the biz. During the course of the conversation, Grainge described his approach to running UMG as akin to that of "an entrepreneurial startup," discussed the revitalization of the Capitol brand and its subsequent Grammy triumph, and delved into the economics of online music from piracy to streaming. Among his key points: the need to transition consumers from "freemium" streaming to a paid subscription model. Check it out.
