IT'S GLOBAL'S WORLD

Worldwide Entertainment Company Launched by U.K. Media Mogul Ashley Tabor; Randy Phillips Named CEO

As we hinted earlier, U.K. media exec Ashley Tabor has launched Global Entertainment, the U.S. division of his Global, The Media and Entertainment Group, and anointed entertainment veteran Randy Phillips as CEO. The company, which aims to be the very model of a 21st Century entertainment entity, encompasses a label, pubco and management division, as well as promotion, events, touring, sponsorship and marketing arms.

Tabor's Global rules commercial radio in the U.K., with top national stations including Top 40 outlet Capital FM, Urban Capital Xtra, Hot AC Heart, Alternative XFM and more, including classical and news/talk. He also oversees Global Television, with Capital and Heart video music networks.

Global Publishing's roster, meanwhile, boasts Ellie Goulding, Corinne Bailey Rae, LMFAO, The Script and The Vamps, among other artists.

"We made a strategic decision to invest in the content generation business and that means investment in the United States," Tabor told us. "Randy & Chuck are building a great team both in L.A. and London and Randy is a proven winner in many facets of the entertainment industry."

In addition to Founder/CEO Tabor, the Global management team includes Group CEO Stephen Miron, COO Ian Hansen and Director of Broadcasting Richard Park.

The U.S. company, where Phillips will preside from his L.A. office (in Westwood), will also have offices in London, and will offer all its affiliated divisions under one roof, with a diverse content hub at its heart. Tabor calls it "a new type of content company," aiming to "redefine the possibilities for a 21st Century music and entertainment company."

Phillips has filled out his team with EVP/CFO Chuck Ciongoli, formally of UMG; longtime protégé David Loeffler as Chief Creative Officer; and Business Affairs executive Rand Hoffman. In addition, EVP and Urban music head Garnett March brings in his own multi-faceted joint venture entertainment company, “The Chemists/Global.” More appointments will be announced in the near future.

The 18-year-old Atlanta artist Anthony Lewis, brought to Global by March, is already seeing some action at Urban.

“We made a strategic decision to invest in the content generation business and that means investment in the United States," Tabor told us. "Randy & Chuck are building a great team both in L.A. and London and Randy is a proven winner in many facets of the entertainment industry. To build a true 360 company, you need someone that understands the various key revenue streams, and Randy does. We are thrilled to have him represent and lead our Entertainment business in America.”

"I’m excited to be leading Global’s growth into the content creation business in the form of Global Entertainment," added Phillips. "We’ve got an outstanding team of executives in both L.A. and London and some great signings. The vision of creating a real 360 content creation company, that genuinely offers a vast array of services to artists, combined with Global’s financial commitment to its new Entertainment division, is something that attracted me greatly to Global. Everyone talks about doing a 360 company, and we hope to lead the way in this new model of music content generation."
