WONDERING ABOUT THE STEVIE SPECIAL?

What Did We Do Before the Age of Appointment Viewing?

We wanted to mention a highlight or two from CBSKen Ehrlich-produced Stevie Wonder: Songs in the Key of Life — An All-Star Grammy Salute in our rundown of Prezzies Day weekend TV, but we haven’t watched it yet. That’s because we spent the last two nights laughing our way through the three and a half hours of SNL 40.

We suspect that, like us, a lot of people have the Stevie tribute captured in their DVRs and fully intend to watch the two-hour special; that would explain the fact that the special was down 33% from the Beatles tribute on 2/9 last year (this according to Deadline.com). Viewership-wise, the Stevie special drew 7.49m viewers compared to the 13.95m the Beatles tribute pulled in on a night that included Winters Olympics competition and the Season 4 winter premiere of The Walking Dead.

The iTunes $7.99 sale of Stevie's catalog timed with the special had a couple of titles in the Top 10 through Monday. As of Tuesday morning, the highest charter is Songs in the Key of Life at #14. The 21-song Definitive Collection, priced at $9.99 is next at #27, followed by Number 1's at #33.

Until you can get to the show, here’s a tantalizing sampler.
