D'ANGELO TAKES A STAND

Delivered More Than Music on SNL

The soul superstar and his dope backing band The Vanguard rocked it on Saturday Night Live with "Really Love" and "The Charade," seizing the moment on the latter song to make a massive statement about both the Trayvon Martin and Eric Garner murders.

D'Angelo wore a dark hoodie in a sartorial salute to Trayvon while The Vanguard were attired in "I Can't Breathe" and "Black Lives Matter" shirts in solidarity around Garner. To underscore his powerful lyrics even further, a chalk outline of a body was scrawled on the floor of Studio 8H in the center of the group.

With a chorus like, "All we wanted was a chance to talk/Stead we only got outlined in chalk," D'Angelo emphatically made his point without saying a word. The performance defintely created sales momentum; Black Messiah is currently sitting at #9 on iTunes.
