iHEARTMEDIA MUSIC SUMMIT DAY THREE: INDIES GONE WILD

Charles Hamilton Rocks the Faithful as Indies
Do the Presentation Boogie

Day Three—the final installment of the iHeartMedia Music Summit—was Independent Day, Part Two. It started with a sizzle reel about Charles Hamilton’s troubled history. The curtain came up with Hamilton at a grand piano backed by full band with horn section and backup singers, and he premiered his comeback record, “Miles Away,” joined by Roc Nation’s Rita Ora, who, like Hamilton, is managed by Sarah Stennett’s Turn First. The perf had the Summit-weary, hungover throng bouncing happily, concluding with a standing ovation, starting the day with one of the gathering’s more memorable performances.

Before label presentations began, iHeart programming guru Tom Poleman was joined onstage by prexy John Sykes, who reminded the troops to be “humble and thankful” for the presence of so many impressive artists and the labels’ time and effort. Sykes emphasized the importance of turning the presentations, on a company level, into action.

Indies giving presentations included Glassnote’s Daniel Glass and Nick Petropoulos, Red Light/ATO’s Will Botwin, Prospect Park’s Jeremy Summers, Secretly Canadian’s Hannah Carlen, Beggars Banquet’s Risa Matsuki and Brien Terranova, Vagrant’s Nick Attaway, Razor & Tie’s Kurt Steffek, Wind-up’s Drew Hauser, RED Associated LabelsBob Weil and Richard Nash, RED’s Danny Buch and Red Bull’s Joe Guzik.

In addition to Hamilton, standout performers of the closing session included Glassnote’s Tor Miller and RED’s Ting Tings.

The final session ended with out-of-town visitors enjoying L.A.’s finest cuisine: In-N-Out burgers.
