MEGHAN TRAINOR'S JANUARY COUP

Trainor Celebrates #1 Bow; Five Debuts in Top 15

Epic breakout star Meghan Trainor bursts onto the HITS Building Album Sales Chart with 196k, dethroning Big Machine’s Taylor Swift and locking in #1 honors.

This marks the biggest January debut by a new artist in the last decade, and the #3 biggest January debut in that period overall.

Taylor, of course, only drops a mere 18%, snagging another 92k at #2 in her 12th week on the chart.

Razor & Tie’s Kidz Bop 27 debuts at #3, while YMCMB/Republic’s Nicki Minaj rounds out the Top 5 with 31k (-5%).

Over at RCA, Mark Ronson and labelmate Jazmine Sullivan both debut in the Top 10 with #6 and 7, respectively, and just under 31k.

U.K. X Factor finalist Ella Henderson, whose “Ghost” video has accumulated 40m+ views, debuts with 23k at #11 for SYCO/Columbia.

222/Interscope’s Maroon 5 jumps #27-12, earning another 21k (+202%) since their Sept. release after announcing “Sugar” as the new single and releasing the corresponding vid.

On our Sales Plus Streaming (SPS) Chart, Meghan remains #1 and moves up to 237k, thanks to two hot singles (and streaming, of course). Mark Ronson moves #6-3 when comparing albums sales to SPS (thank you, “Uptown Funk”), while Maroon 5 moves #12-8, Republic’s Ariana Grande moves #35-17 and RCA’s Sia (whose SNL bump followed a rise fueled by her “Elastic Heart” vid going viral) moves #29-18.

Streeting this week are albums from DCD2/Island’s Fall Out Boy, which is destined for another substantial January #1, RCA’s Grammy nominees comp, Capitol’s Decemberists, Lupe Fiasco and Loma Vista’s Marilyn Manson (through Concord).
