Edgar on iTunes, content

CONTENT IS KING…ISN’T IT? But what got most of the attention were Bronfman’s statements about iTunes in the context of Amazon caving in to Macmillan’s pressure and raising the price of e-books. ''I think what this signals is that content is going to have more pricing flexibility over time rather than less, because frankly, the only thing that drives iPhones, iPads, Kindles, Zunes and other kinds of devices is content,'' Bronfman said. ''I think the power of content in that little fracas with Amazon was clearly evident… It’s interesting that the book publishing industry, on the iPad, has much more flexibility than the music industry had,” he noted. The counter here, offered Peter Kafka in All Things D, “is the one that seems obvious to everyone else: Lower prices and you can sell more stuff.” (2/11a)
