Lucian's CD prediction

SHINY ROUND THINGS STILL CAUSING A STIR: It didn’t take long after being named UMG CEO in waiting for Lucian Grainge to make an impression, thanks to one eyebrow-raising sentence uttered during his initial meet-and-greet with U.S. press. "I believe that the CD will out-survive me as a format," Grainge told the New York Times, quickly generating a buzz on the blogosphere. Interestingly, Edgar Bronfman Jr. made a more general comment on the subject of obsolescence earlier this week, Digital Music News thoughtfully pointed out. "I would quote my friend Barry Diller and say 'Nothing ever replaces anything,' meaning that there are sort of always vestiges," Bronfman offered during WMG’s earnings call on Wednesday. "You can still go to Central Park and see horses and buggies, but they're hardly the main means of transportation." (2/12a)
