Essence Music Fest

ESSENCE OF NOLA: Janet Jackson, Alicia Keys and Mary J. Blige will headline the three nights of this year’s edition of the Essence Music Festival, which will take place at the New Orleans Superdome over the 4th of July weekend. The main-stage talent lineup assembled to celebrate the magazine’s 40th anniversary also includes Charlie Wilson, Raphael Saadiq and Monica (Friday, 7/2); Gladys Knight, LL Cool J and Keri Hilson (Saturday, 7/3); Earth Wind & Fire, Jill Scott and Trey Songz (Sunday, 7/4). Among the talent booked for the Superlounges are Chrisette Michele, Irma Thomas, Freddie King, De La Soul, Joe, Rebirth Brass Band and Estelle. Steve Harvey will co-MC the Saturday show.
