Rhapsody Churn

RHAPSODY DROPPING: According to data disclosed by parent RealNetworks, Rhapsody subscribers now stand at 650k, a nearly 20% year-over-year decline (from 800k), with quarter-to-quarter dropoff at roughly 4%. RealNetworks and MTV announced earlier this year the spin-off of the property, in which it will be treated as an equity investment instead of a part of the broader balance sheet. The results cast doubts on whether European start-up Spotify can succeed in the U.S. (5/10a)
