Myxer survey offers some surprising results

SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEW: A survey of more than 1,000 mobile-phone users by Myxer and broken out by Digital Music News found that 47% still use terrestrial radio to discover music, while 45% said radio is the preferred source for discovering local music, followed by word-of-mouth at 31%. In other findings, 32% listen to music on their phones between 1-5 hours a week, 26% listen to their phones more than 20 hours a week (Myxer failed to ask about the occurrence of stiff necks from this practice), 49% consume “most” of their entertainment on the Internet, 39% attended 1-2 live events a year and 74% of respondents still buy at least one CD a year. These somewhat surprising stats caused Myxer CEO Myk Willis to conclude, "Social media and the mobile Internet have not killed the radio star, not yet at least." (6/23a)
