Big Star Hummel Passes

AND THEN THERE WAS ONE: Just four months after the death of Alex Chilton comes word that original Big Star bassist Andy Hummel has passed away at the age of 59 after a two-year battle with cancer. Hummel was instrumental in the sound of the band's second album, Radio City, and his passing leaves drummer Jody Stephens as the lone surviving member of the seminal Memphis power-pop band. Co-founder Chris Bell died in 1978 at the age of 27. (7/19p)
