ENTERTAINING OUTDOORS IN AUGUST: The Wilco-curated Solid Sound Festival drew more than 5k people to the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art in North Adams over the weekend. Apart from the headlining band, the fest featured Wilco side projects the Autumn Defense (bassist John Stirrat and utility man Pat Sansone), Pronto (with keyboardist Mikael Jorgensen), On Fillmore (with drummer Glen Kotche) and the Nels Cline Singers, along with the all-female trio Mountain Man, Vetiver, kid band Avi Buffalo, the Baseball Project and Mavis Staples, whose upcoming album was produced by Jeff Tweedy. Check out Ned Chinen’s review in the N.Y. Times. Meanwhile, in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, Kings of Leon headlined the final night of Outside Lands, which boasted a diverse and super tasty talent lineup including My Morning Jacket, the Strokes (who smoked, according to RollingStone.com, Phoenix, Al Green, Social Distortion, Cat Power, the Levon Helm Band, Wolfmother, Tokyo Police Club, Gogol Bordello, Chromeo and Dead spinoff Furthur.
