Birch Goes Goth

BIRCH GOES GOTH: S-Curve’s acclaimed singer/songwriter Diane Birch is releasing a seven-track covers collection, The Velveteen Age, which includes covers of songs by Siouxsie & the Banshees, Joy Division, The Cure, Echo & the Bunnymen and Peter Murphy, among others, next Tuesday (12/7). The album of goth classics reflects the music Birch listened to in her bedroom growing up, and was recorded with the Phenomenal Handclap Band in Brooklyn and co-produced by the label’s Steve Greenberg, in between songwriting sessions for her next album of original material. Birch's 2009 release Bible Belt was one of the year’s most well-reviewed efforts. The first single, a cover of Sisters of Mercy’s “This Corrosion,” can be heard here. (11/30p)
