READY, SET, ACTION: The Director’s Guild of America announced its five nominees today, a sure harbinger of the Oscars. The nominees are all male: Black Swan helmer Darren Aronofsky, The Social Network's David Fincher, The King's Speech's Tom Hooper, Inception's Chris Nolan, and The Fighter's David O. Russell. Biggest surprise is probably the absence of the Coen brothers for the smash hit True Grit. Also not making the cut: Danny (127 Hours) Boyle, Debra (Winter’s Bone) Granik, Lisa Cholodenko (The Kids Are All Right), Clint (Hereafter) Eastwood, Sofia (Somewhere) Coppola, Martin (Shutter Island) Scorsese, Roman (The Ghost Writer) Polanski. Is it ex-music video director Fincher’s to lose? (1/10p)
