WSJ on potential buyers and sellers

WHO’S ON FIRST: On the same subject, the prospective buyers and sellers for EMI and/or Warner Music are conveniently gathered in this morning’s Wall Street Journal under the headline, “Citigroup Seeks Buyer for EMI.” According to by frequent collaborators Dana Cimilluca and Ethan Smith, Citi has already made contact with several prospective buyers, a list that includes not only German/American partnership BMG Rights Management, WMG, UMG and Sony Music, but also Canadian pension-fund firm CPP Investment Board, Simon Cowell’s Syco, and Guy Hands himself, as previously reported. Sources tell the reporters that Hands is exploring ways Terra Firma can maintain an ownership stake in EMI, which under such a scenario might actually make a bid for WMG. The price tag for all of EMI is expected to be in the neighborhood of 1.8 billion. (1/28a)
