Spotify Adds EMI

RUN SPOTIFY RUN: Euro digital service Spotify may be getting close to signing an agreement with its second major label in EMI Music after bringing in Sony Music Entertainment last week, according to the N.Y. Times. That would give the company two of the four major labels, with UMG still the big fish out there. According to the story, an agreement with UMG is not imminent, though Lucian Grainge is reportedly a big believer in Spotify, having seen it succeed overseas. Last year, the online subscription servicce said it had 10 million users in seven countries in Europe, 750k of them paid. The company has also said that in 2009 it lost about $27 million. WMG's Edgar Bronfman, the other Big Four holdout, told analysts last year free streaming services “are clearly not a net positive for the industry.” (1/28p)
