Clive Davis Party

IT'S HIS PARTY AND HE'LL CLIVE IF HE WANTS TO: Industry legend Clive Davis followed up his N.Y. and L.A. Times interviews by holding his annual pre-Grammy soiree at the Beverly Hilton last night and it was star-studded, with performances from newcomers Mumford & Sons and Janelle Monae as well as card-carrying superstar divas like Jennifer Hudson, Whitney Houston and Mary J. Blige as well as a scintillating R. Kelly, whose set-closer was said to be the evening’s highlight. The acts played to the likes of Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, Barry Manilow, Kelly Rowland, Lenny Kravitz, Quincy Jones, Sarah Silverman, Faith Evans, Chaka Khan, Lou Reed, multiple Glee cast members and the Foo Fighters, whose Dave Grohl described the affair as “his company’s office party.” David Geffen was the honoree (the evening is dubbed “Pre-Gammy Gala and Salute to Industry Icons”) and Cher paid homage with a wry, witty tribute. The only sour note in the evening: whatever happened to Lady Gaga’s expected performance? (2/13p)
