TODAY’S READING ASSIGNMENT: No, not A Visit From the Goon Squad, Jennifer Egan’s captivating and stunningly accurate music-biz novel, which won the Pulitzer Prize on Monday (though we strongly suggest that you snag a copy immediately). We’re referring to Ann Powers’ insightful examination of the novel and the precedents it sets, posted on NPR Music. While some readers had difficulty following the threads through Powers’ pieces as Bob Hilburn’s successor at the L.A. Times, this essay is right in Powers’ sweet spot. (4/20a)
