PREPPING FOR SUMMER: Live Nation and Groupon plan to launch online ticketing deals in time for the summer-concert season, the Wall Street Journal reports. The new site, GrouponLive, will offer limited-time deals on Live Nation events for Ticketmaster clients. Said Michael Rapino, "By adding this channel to our ticketing platform, we will also provide our venue partners with another option for driving ticket sales across a wide range of events.” Groupon has been rapidly expanding by persuading local businesses to spend money online to attract customers, the story explains. Its model has caught on in part because merchants don't pay for marketing until they get a customer in the door. In December, Groupon reportedly walked away from an acquisition offer from Google worth as much as $6 billion. (5/9a)
