DIGITAL POACHING: Following a major price hike last week from $19 to $49 per year, Tunecore is now finding its artists being poached by companies like CD Baby, which is offering half-price submission fees to any artist switching from any other service. "No $49 annual fees ever!" the company screams at www.cdbabylovesyoumore.com. "CD Baby has played a defining role in the independent music community for 12 years, and we've done it by helping musicians just like you." CD Baby charges a one-time setup fee, then takes 9% of sales. Artists interested in switching are being asked to email [email protected] or [email protected], with “Switch to CD Baby” in the subject line. Said CD Baby President Brian Felson: “We're not going to jack up your rates two-and-a-half times, it's a company you can trust." (5/17a)
