Rushent Passes

MARTIN RUSHENT, 62, an English record producer best known for his work with Human League, The Stranglers and the Buzzcocks, died on Sunday (6/5). Rushent started his career as an engineer in the ‘70s, for Shirley Bassey, Fleetwood Mac and T. Rex before launching his own Genetic label. He was behind the board for several of the most influential post-punk acts, most notably Human League, producing their world-wide hit, “Don’t You Want Me?,” from the pioneering, influential synthpop album Dare. He also produced the first three albums by The Stranglers and the first three by the Buzzcocks, including the hit “Ever Fallen in Love with Someone (You Shouldn’t Have).” He went on to record Joy Division, Altered Images, Pete Shelley, the Go-Go’s, XTC and New Romantic group Visage. Rushent earned a Brit Award as Producer of the Year in 1982, with his Genetic studio acquiring a reputation as the most technologically advanced recording facility in the country.
