KOL doc to premiere on Showtime

THE BOYS WHO WOULD BE KINGS: Talihina Sky, a documentary recounting the history of the Followill clan and the genesis of Kings of Leon, will make its TV premiere on Showtime on Sunday, Aug. 21, at 10 p.m. ET. The film directed by family friend Stephen C. Mitchell, includes home video and behind-the-scenes footage of the band, as well as their extended family and their Pentecostal minister dad. The title of the rock doc refers to Talihina, OK, where the Followill family hosts an annual weeklong family reunion. "This is the first year we have to miss it," Nathan Followill told Rolling Stone shortly after a rough cut of the film debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival. Talihina Sky tells the story of how the brothers embraced rock & roll despite growing up in a religious environment that considered it the devil's music, and how their minister father came to enjoy the group's success. "Our dad still enjoys the celebrity of being Leon," said Nathan. Leon is the Rev. Followill’s middle name. (7/7a)
