OF THEE WE STREAM: With Spotify entering the U.S. market, Nielsen statistics reveal that streaming and on-demand audio services command an active user base of just 10.2% in America, with near-zero growth. The study tracks a total of 18 services, including Rhapsody, Last.fm, Pandora, Napster, iHeartRadio, MOG and Blip.fm. Even in the U.K., where Spotify is entrenched, the penetration level was just 5.2%, and not growing. "Let's not forget that music streaming services are also competing with other sources and channels of music consumption (in the share of consumers' time and money)," Nielsen stated. (7/26a)
