Spotify taking heat for Facebook requirement

SPOTIFY FACES THE MUSIC: Visitors to the Spotify sign-up page are now greeted by the following message: "You need a Facebook account to register for Spotify. If you have an account, just log in below to register. If you don't have a Facebook account, get one by clicking the 'create an account' link below." The new requirement, revealed last week at the f8 developer conference, has some of Spotify users pissed off—and they’re not being quiet about it, CNET News noted. Part of the problem is that the Facebook-Spotify integration also lets users' Facebook friends see what tracks they’re listening to at any given moment, which the unhappy users see as an invasion of privacy. "Not cool” wrote one Getsatisfaction.com member. “My Spotify account isn't linked to Facebook, and it'll stay that way, thankyouverymuch." And all this despite the fact that you don't have to be logged in to Facebook to use the music service, as Spotify pointed out in a statement. (9/27a)
