Civil Wars Q&A in NYT

TODAY’S READING ASSIGNMENT:
Speaking of Grammy nominations, there’s a terrific interview in the N.Y. Times with John Paul White and Joy Williams, aka The Civil Wars, on the occasion of their headlining concert Thursday night at Town Hall. The underground success of their acclaimed album Barton Hollow (Sensibility Music) and sellout shows on both sides of the Atlantic has made the duo a popular pick to snag a nomination in the Best New Artist category. “It feels quite fast,” Williams tells interviewer James McKinley, “but at the same time I don’t feel it’s been fast, either, because we didn’t just step into the music business last year. For all the years of banging our heads against a wall, to finally have organic momentum without the help of a major record label, with a little engine that could, so to speak, of a team behind us, I think that makes it so much sweeter and so much more surreal.” (10/26a)
