Lifetime Achievement Grammy recipients

STATE OF THE ART: The Recording Academy has just announced the latest crop of Special Merit Awards recipients. Getting Lifetime Achievement Awards are the Allman Brothers Band, Glen Campbell, Antonio Carlos Jobim, George Jones, the Memphis Horns, Diana Ross and Gil Scott-Heron; receiving the Trustees Award are Dave Bartholomew, Steve Jobs and engineer Rudy Van Gelder; and the Technical Grammy honorees are the German pro audio company Celemony and engineer Roger Nichols, best known for his work with Steely Dan. The invitation-only ceremony will be held on Grammy eve, Saturday, Feb. 11, and a formal acknowledgment will be made during the Grammys telecast. "This year's honorees offer a variety of brilliance, contributions and lasting impressions on our culture," said Neil Portnow. "It is an honor to recognize such a diverse group of individuals whose talents and achievements have had an indelible impact on our industry." (12/21a)
